This Message Board

Sixteen months ago, I was looking for information on the upcoming release of Heroes IV.  I didn't find any here.  Instead, I found the Altar of Wishes, where people described what they wanted the game to be.  Everybody knew that their posts wouldn't make a difference, but people still put a lot of effort into their posts and came up with great ideas.  I must have read just about every thread in the Altar and then tentatively joined and made a thread.  I expected to be flamed and dismissed, but instead people were receptive, even those who disagreed with me.  I continued making posts in the altar and timidly ventured into the tavern and made a couple posts there, too.

When Heroes IV was finally released, I found out that my computer couldn't run it.  I stopped coming to HC because I didn't care anymore.  I still haven't played HOMMIV.

This summer, I found myself having more free time than before.  I sort of remembered this site I used to visit, "heroescommunity.com."  I went there and, to my surprise, it was still there.  Many of the people I remembered from when I was here earlier and lots of new people as well were all here and the community was alive and well.  I found a number of threads, interesting, thoughful, hilarious or all three in the tavern now and I started posting again.

Most of those threads would now be classified as spam.

HC gave me a lot of entertainment over the summer.  Things were a lot looser then.  Nowadays, "Andi is really Cute and Fluffy" would be closed as soon as it was started, but everybody had fun in it.  Spam?  Yeah.  So?  The threads "Cat Takes a Bath" and "Oldtimer Takes a Bath" would be locked and deleted within a day.  They were fun.  "Please only Naked Girls read this, I'm serious" would have been eliminated instantly.  That thread is still one of the most popular threads in HC history.  It's also spam.

Isn't the point of the board for people to have fun?  If they're having fun with drivel, what does it matter?  Why is there this sudden push to make the board a dry, sterile place?  I think those "let's put up pictures of fluffy animals" and all the association game threads are stupid, but people enjoy them, so more power to them and I just stay out of them.  If storage space is an issue, delete the last 20 pages of the tavern.  If a thread is made that a mod considers vapid, give it a while.  If it falls to the 2nd or 3rd page with only a couple replies than yeah, the community thinks its stupid too and you can delete it.

If people are arguing, so what?  People have opinions, people disagree.  What is this, a tea party?  Yeah, it can get out of hand, but I, for one think that people should be given a long leash rather than a short one.

I've never made a thread like this before, but things seem to be changing.  Please, I really enjoy it here on this board.  Let people have their fun.

Sorry.  From now on would you prefer it if everybody emailed you their posts first and you can decide whether to accept the post at all and then place it where you see fit (after, of course, blacking out the content you disapprove of)?

Ah, I see.  So, rather than answering the post itself, rather than critiquing the content of the post itself, rather than even simply ignoring it, you choose to complain about the location of the post.

You could have said, "Well, I think that the spam frightens new members away, and that's more important to me than keeping veterans happy."  You could have said, "Well, I think those threads you mentioned should be deleted, too."  You could have said "It's not a tea party now, but yes, that is the way I would like it to be."  You could have said any number of things, but you choose to nitpick about the location of the post?  If you can't attack the position, attack the poster?

Fine, I'll respond to your posts by correcting the grammar then.  After all, that's so much more fun than responding to the actual content.

1.  The first word in a sentence should be capitalized.
2.  The "t" in Oldtimer is not capitalized.
3.  "Oldtimer's thread" needs an apostrophe because it is possesive.
4.  "Believe" is mispelled.

This is more or less the same thing oldtimers thread is about, it could have been posted there.

1.  The "O" in Oldtimers should be capitalized.
2.  "Oldtimer's thread" once again requires an apostrophe.
3.  This is a comma splice.  It should be two sentences.

Wow!  That was fun.  From now on I think I'll dismiss posts because of grammatical errors rather than their content.

LOL you call her anally retentive for sticking to the rules and yet think it's funny to spend an entire post picking out all the mistakes someone made in their second language.

Yeah I really see the fun in that.

I could be wrong here PH, but i'm pretty sure English is Kitten's language, i believe she's an American.

Of course you may have been referring to her primary language as being in "Cat" but since i haven't yet seen her post in a series of meows, i don't think that's the case

It would be funny if her posts were meows tho

I'm sorry, you need even simple things explaining to you, let me try to bring it to your level.

I (that being me, PH) posted the quote above. In it I (PH unless you forgot) suggested you (as in nightshiver, aka hypocritical troublemaker) called her (as in Kitten, a mod here) anally retentive (as in an insult)

lalalalalaala (to quote stiven for once), tell me, are you bothering to back this up with evidence (sorry that might be too long a word for you, read proof), or do you encourage unproven BS about your mods on your stupid forum?

Edit: My appologies to kitten, for some reason someone told me she was german!
