ok, it's probably just me that thinks that 3d-rendered graphics is 2d graphics. and 3d graphics means more like real-time 3d graphics to me. if it was real-time 3d graphics the game would be a mile different from any previous homms, but from the last edit with the quote from the other forum i understand this is not the case.

about the interaction in the map, heroes 3 GOOD maps have a lot of interaction, but most players play closed maps or closed RMG, it's not fault of the game, but of the players

To Gerdash : How do I know it will turn out better ? Hey, I'm paid to know ! More precisely, I want to make all interfaces and mostly choices a lot clearer. It will be better visually, but also easier to use. This is critical in order for any player to be able to enter any game.
hmm.. if you could/wanted to answer some questions like (fill in the blanks):

'in my (our) opinion, one of the reasons for moderate sucess of homm4 could have been ....'

or

'in my (our) opinion, one of the reasons for moderate sucess of homm4 compared to previous homms could have been ....'

would also be nice. if you can't/don't want to, well, ok then. you might have some reasons not to want to say things like that.

from my point of view, i don't really know anything much about you, you know, and things like that would be interesting to hear.

what you are really aiming for with the game is what i really wanted to ask last time (the kind of players you expect, etc), and how you are intending to do that.

3D for all game ...
What generation of 3D cards will be required for 30-60 fps with _full_ graphics quality?

DirectX 7 (GeForce 2 / Geforce 4MX / slow Radeon - low-end)?
DirectX 8 (GeForce 4Ti / medium Radeon - i have GF4200)?
DirectX 9 (GeForce FX / fast Radeon - i hope _not_that_ )?

I got a question, don't know if it's been asked before:

what are you gonna be doing with HOMM1-2 and the old Might and Magic games? They are clearly not gonna be published, so will they be avaliable as legal abandonware or freeware?

To be honest, it for me "appeal to much more people" sounds like "maka a game for everyone".

And that usually means simplyfying it.

Some examples why I don't like it:
- Mechwarrior 1-3 were all great games. They were not simple shooters, lots of tactical decisions were required. With Mech4, Ms decided to make it a game for everyone. Most people played it online with unlimited ammo, and long range missiles turned off (because they had to use brains to defend against it, not lighting reflexes).
It's funny how we no longer hear about Mechwarrior games, isn't it ?

Another example: Dungeon Siege. Looks great, until you play it. Also it was designed as a game for massess.
Again, how often do you hear about it ?

On the other hand, Total Annihilation is old and has crappy graphics and it still has many fan(atic)s. Sequel is on the way.
--------------
Conclusion:  oversimplification is evil.  Especially in a game, where graphics is secondary, and pause feature is pointless.

Here is my questions.

Would you keep the basic structure of the way the game can be played. With a overland map changing to battlemap when (doh) and to citymaps when in a ... ? And campaigns where maps are linked! Or will you come up with some new or exstra innovative funktions?

Will Homm5 have a rank system, an online turnament, a map for 1000+ players at the same time. A skirmish encounter.

To explain a little the direction I am asking about!
Would you make a feature for battles only- in many games called a skirmish. Basicly skipping the overland map to let player buy an army in the townscreen mode. And then meet with the purchaced army direct on a random battlefield map! offcause a feature there (if implemented nice) would be very enjoyable in online play, oppening for tournements and ranks (and short battles) for a broader online community! (this is basicly the multiplayer feature in Medieval War I ask if you would implement)

This could be expanded to let players have each there small overland map kingdom, and taking teleports to battle location. (in pracsice operating with 2+ overland maps Allowing for staking items and lokations against each others as price money!(imagine the winner returns with a mine to build in his own map!) This also allows for letting each player try to expand his small kingdom up against thousands of other players in a turnbased game played realtime with a daily move and battle posible!

should heroes stay as it is (and hopefully shines)or expand its areas of play to allow for other plays aswell ?

i like jondifool's suggestion

kinda like melee mode in starcontrol 2 or in conquest of the new world.

i think this would be a great gateway for people to learn to play before they set forth on the adventure map. great learning curve tool.

my qustion is: is the artwork going to be shrunk to warcraft 3 sizes? or are you planning on making the battlefield much much smaller? i wouldnt mind smaller battlefield like Heroes2 or heroes1 where units are huge, it adds character i find.

An educated guess

My question will more than likely be shot down but I must inquire through my own unique perspective and history. If what I have seen is any indication then I must ask:
Considering this new concept art and a desire to hold on to a HeroesIV type of game experience...Could it be true that our traditional heroes community and fans are about to witness a game that is completely different from the ones we have come to love so?
Could it be true that this new and very different game will relate more to the Final Fantasy series played on a game console built on anime(some refer to this as Manga-style) artwork?
Why would game creators such as yourselves want to force an entire community of fans into such a drastic set of changes?
 Did we do something wrong?
This type of game-style could be added to some other game that is already using this genre and would like to expand upon it.If I wanted to play a game with such a template and this type of artwork then I KNOW WHERE TO FIND IT.I enjoy the occasional variety but why bring it here and force it on us?We did not ask for this change.

The art work and graphics have changed a lot between heroes 2 and heroes 3 and heroes 3 and heroes 4. This is more to be seen as a natural developement of the game due to graphics card becoming much better and other technlogical developement, and you do need something fresh when you're giving out a new title.

I think changing graphics is something we have to accept as part of the fan community.

I do hope that the game designers will put most of its efforts on improving game play and strategy.

A new reply from MuadDib on the round table question thread.

The most interesting to me is the answer about game balance / betatesters.

This one's obvious.

Are heroes going to be in Combat or will they be sidetracked like in Heroes 1 - 3?

This one's less obvious.

What will the magic system be like?

Will the Thieve's guild and the Marketplace return as town structures in Heroes 5?

Will some of the creatures change alignments?

What i would like to know more than anything else is will the games overall design be focusing on its playability as an online game. Because if too much attention is payed to improving the A.I then i recon the whole thing will flop.

Also i think that conducting polls with reguard to hotly debated aspects of the game will be helpfull. Get a feel for what most people would like.

There is already one poll up including 38 questions, which you can take. (It's one of the sticky topics here in the Altar.)

If there are enough questions interests there will be a follow up. Feel free to suggest more questions/answers in Maximums "Hit list and Miss list" thread.
