Each player should have different victory or loss conditions(?)

Like a player red has to capture a town but will lose if he or she loses a hero, but a player blue has to defeat all enemies and will lose if he or she itself is defeated and player green will win if he defeats a specific enemy hero but will lose if he loses a hero or his/her own.

And even more importantly, multiple conditions should be allowed: Win by builing grail structure in Whatever Castle and defeatin red player, lose if you lose Whatever Castle or if xxx days pass.  But yes, I agree with you.

That's a must

I totally agree. Multiple victory and defeat conditions seem quite easy to develop and they're really a must for mapmakers.

And just another thing: those victory and defeat conditions should be different for every faction in the map. For instance, your victory condition could be finding the Grial, but if the enemy's victory condition is set to destroy your AI ally, you'll be forced to split your forces both searching for the Grail and defending your weak ally.

How did I miss This?

Just looking for old but good topics and hey... I found one I don't recall seeing that sounds pretty cool.

Mapmakers should be given as much freedom as possible to make maps that are fun to play. No offense to 3DO but many H3 maps made by gamers were more enjoyable to me.

I play this game mainly for multiplay purposes, and having several different people with different agendas on one map sounds intriguing.

Different victory conditions for each player would be a good option for mapmakers, but it would be bad if it worked that way in every game.

That's actually an idea I've seen used in various card and board games, and it can work well, and the option to do that would give mapmakers more flexibility.

i fully agree to this idea, for homm2 i made a map, and the goal was to capture a certain castle, the castle was run by a computer player, and as soon as i started the game, he won (this was like 5 years ago, and i was rather stupid back then, i was only 10 or 9 or somthing), and this idea is very good b/c each colour can have a different difficulty, that would require more skill, and that would be awesome, i could think of lots of things to use this idea with, great idea thunder

I like the idea very much. Someone on this board suggested that you should defend your own town for XX days. That is also a good suggestion. If you ever have played Starcraft you know what triggers are. That may be cool if you could do triggers in Heroes 4 maps. For example if you play a map and the victory condition is to find the grail, and when you do, a trigger executes and all opponents team togheter against you

Yeah, that idea is pretty good. For example: defending the town for xxx days brings in new strategic point of view and it keeps the atmosphere on. It's boring that you always have to conquer all the teretory and things like that. I also think that it would be good to remove the grail once you put it in the town. It's not that realistic(how can you remove gigantic structure once built?)but, after all this is fantasy game.

All this stuff for events could be applied to seer huts and quest gates too.

For example, you enter the seer hut and receive the quest to bring back some artifact. When you had brought that artifact you get a new quest to get some behemoths and/or you receive a reward of 10 000 gold. After you had given those behemoths you get a quest of rescuing a hero AND gaining some new artifacts for the seer.

One thing I like to add for quest gates is that hero can't get pass it until some period of time has passed.

I also would like to see that quest gates wouldn`t disappear from the map if one playes has done the quest. It could be similar to those "coloured" gates that won`t disappear either. It means that EVERY player has to do a quest in order to pass the gate. And it doesn't have to be the same quest all the time, every player could have his or her own quest(s) for it. Also rewards could be added to the quest gates.
For example, player Blue gets a quest and has to bring a treasure artifact for the gate. Player Red has to pay 20 000 gold in order to pass. After player Blue has completed the first quest, he or she gets a quest of conquering an enemy town and gets as a reward some upgraded 6th level creatures according to the town type. Player Orange has to wait two months after visiting the gate while player Green has to pay 1000 gold and seven Bone Dragons.

All this will add a flexibility to map editor and depth into the game.

Totally agree!

And there must be more comblicated events. For example it would be great to have more events on the same grid. And events would have new section; trigger. So IF you're red AND your hero is Sandro OR your hero has Sword of Judgement AN/OR enemy at 23,45,1 is defeated the event would be played. More comblicated map editor!
