** WoG 3.57f Released **

WoG 3.57f, the (final) version of 3.57 that supports multiplayer games and fixes numerous bugs, is now available for download from File Planet on the WoG Download page:

http://strategyplanet.com/homm/wog/download.shtml

This patch is about 8 MB in size and includes an updated ERM Help file.

To use the 3.57f patch, you must first install WoG 3.56 and then the 3.57 update (one at a time).

If you already have 3.57 installed, or even 3.57m or the beta prerelease of 3.57f, you can install the final 3.57f on top and it will work just fine.

In addition to numerous bug fixes and minor changes in 3.57f, there are a few additional ERM commands added and two completely NEW option features:
  1. External creature dwellings accumulate unpurchased creatures from week-to-week (Heroes 2 style).
  2. External guarded creature dwellings accumulate undefeated guards from week-to-week.

These options both default to off, and either may be enabled separately.

There may be another small script update to fix additional bugs as they're found in a week or three, but this will be a very small download and easy to install. There may also be another update to the ERM Help file at some point.

In addition, there may be an Interim Script Update in a few months with completely NEW option scripts, or we may hold off until 3.58 is released and include them then (which could take anywhere from about 4 months to a year, so don't hold your breath unless you like turning blue ).

Crap!!!

When I download it with GetRight, it instantly stops and I get a damaged file. When I don't use GetRight, it won't start downloading at all!

I've actually had success lately with File Planet using Download Accellerator. Have you tried that one?

What, am I supposed to get all download boosters available??

This only works with FlashGet, that only works with DownloadAccelerator... To hell with them! If can't have 3.57f without DA, I won't.

File Planet should also work without a download booster of any type. But I know it sometimes doesn't seem to work (with or without boosters), so sometimes you have to try several times to get it to work (I've struggled with it too in the past).

Unfortunately, due to the large file sizes of WoG, and the large number of downloads that use a LOT of bandwidth, File Planet is the only practical option right now. Remember, WoG is a totally free addon to Heroes III, so there's no money available for anything that costs money.

If all else fails, there are some other non-English language sites that host WoG, and when they update, you could try from one of them (I believe there are some links on the downloads page).

Well, I've downloaded it all right, but at the beginning of the installation it says " Please wait..." So I've waited, and waited, and waited... And nothing.

Did you check your Regional Settings (in Control Panel) to make sure it's set to United States English?

That often causes a problem if it's not set to that -- you should set it to US English and then reboot and install WoG (you can change it back after installation). This may be ncessary even if it wasn't necessary for previous versions (e.g., if you already have 3.56 or 3.57 installed).

Also, if you didn't already have 3.57 installed, you must install the allinone.zip first, then 3.56 to 3.57, and then 3.57f (one at a time).

Okay, well you could either:

a) try again, deleting everything and installing from scratch (SoD, then allinone, then 356-->357, then 357f),

or

b) wait until a new Allinone is made (maybe in a few weeks) that will be direct from SoD to 3.57f,

or

c) look for wog debug files in the woglogs folder and send them to Slava Salnikov <zvs@mail.ru> and maybe he'll have an idea what's wrong

or

d) wiggle your ears and juggle grapefruit with your feet while whistling your favourite song backwards.

Good luck with whichever option you try (and if you go for d, make sure you send photos!)

I have been told some have had to install the new file 3 times before it actually went through.  I know that if the pc is on the internet it will sometimes cause a problem with the installer.  If you were still connected to the internet try to install it again without being connected.

Nice one Fnord I like the last option

I'm glad you like it. And I hope you'll forward any pictures that any of the WoG tournament players send in of them doing that too.

Hiya all the WoG players on HC!!!

I've got fresh news about 3.58 patch directly from ZVS (also known as Slava Salnikov, the creator of WoG).
It will have the following features:

1. Some kind of towns, but not really towns (the idea of these objects is still being worked on).
2. Monster stacks gain experience and increase their stats; when two stacks with different exp. are united, the experience is spread among them in equal amount.
3. Every commander will have his own spellbook with 5 unique spells (that is, spells which are not in normal Heroes III), a total of 45 new spells!
4. Every army can have up to 9 commanders.
5. And, as usual, new stuff like artifacts, scripts etc.

Now what do you think about that all ?!

I'm not sure what the towns thing refers to since we haven't really discussed anything about it that I recall, except possibly changing a town's creatures (to new or existing ones) and chaning what some of the buildings do by using an ERM script. But it sounds like maybe Slava's referring to something else here anyway.

We have discussed the monster stack experience a bit, but not lately, except that Slava still plans to include it. I think this feature will be quite fun if he gets it working.

We're currently discussing the details of the Commander spellbooks and spells. It's not definite that we would have ALL new spells though -- some might be standard H3 spells too. I guess we'll have to see.

We're also discussing the details of including 9 Commanders in a single army and how to balance it to avoid potential problems.

3.58 could take quite awhile though..maybe 4-8 months (or even longer) so I hope everyone will spend some time enjoying 3.57f in the meantime.

(And btw, it's an update and not a patch. 3.57f is a patch to 3.57 but 3.58 will be an update -- meaning primarily it will be new features rather than bug fixing.
