Sure is.
No such thing as "real" fantasy. HOMM is an original creation, they can make wyverns look like flying tortoises with butterfly wings, and it can be a Wyvern, because THEY made it up.

Here are my favourite factions:
1.Dungeon-probably the best ear...aagh,...i mean team in the game
2.Rampart-generally good units
3.Conflux-well balanced
4.Necropolis-good on big maps(with every enemy dead, their power grow, especially if you have the Cloak of the Undead King)
5.Stronghold or Castle-good on small maps(you get the Behemoths on the 3rd day if the castle has the Wolf Pen)
And dat is my top 5

1 tower (so many ranged pricy yes but so many range  )
2 necropolis (vampire lich dead knight wee)
3 rampart (much hp)
4 dungeon (only town on the underground)
5 fortres (when i choose that heroe with 5% bonus each level 2 defense wow )
6 castle (the human race is weak bring out the androids)
7 stronghold (gota love that cycplops during siege attacks and defenses i think he is a really good 6th level unit )
8 hellhole town (ehh )

Best Team
1. Dungeon : 3 Flyer (one anti magic, one unetaliated), 2 shooter, 1 great Walker
2. Necropolis : 1 CRAZY shooter, 4 flyer (one drain life), most of the troops have extreme special ability.
3. Tower : 3 Shooter (one is best shooter), 2 flyer (one is tremendous spellcaster).
4. Castle : 2 Flyer (one rescurrectioner), one jouster, two double attack units.
5. Inferno : 2 high speed flyer (one unretaliated, one has fire shield).
6. Rampart : 2 great flyer, 1 double shoot shooter, 1 root binder. 1 BLINDer
