I won't vote...
Sorry but those choices are too LIMITED.
I would perhaps vote if Heroes would be put into with really great games not with crappy games like Diablo. Diablo haven't even seen RPG it's only action games with some RPG spices so everybody can think of playing Roleplaying game.
Have heard many good things about Starcraft however I'm not fan of realtimestrategies because "strategic" choices in these games are next to none.
Half-Life? I don't really care any firstpersonshooter that much that I could think as best game...Deus Ex isn't too bad...
But there aren't games like Civilization, Master of Orion/Magic, Turn-based-wargames...
Can't pick any up. But because we are in HoMM community choice would be too obvious. Everybody should pick HoMM up. And if you don't...What you are doing in here in first place?

yeah, Civilation 2 is a wicked game. I probably got it mixed up with counterstrike. And Sha_Men, the list only allows 5 choices, and I dunno what game u want to among them. So tell me. O and, arachnid, u have to admit, Blizzard makes great games, that's why all their games are in the top ten (except for warcraft). And yeah, counterstrike and Half-life are basically the same game, but I think that's what it shoed on the list. I may be wrong. I'll check again. It's it's wrong, then I'll change counterstrike to CivilizationII, which is what Pluvious said to be second. So, I may be wrong. Lemme check again and I'll get bakc to ya

Yes, Blizzard does make great games, but 3do also makes great games. You now that I did make a thread like this, and then I realised that it was stupid. Think about it, we ar it the Heroes Community, not the Diablo, Starcraft, or Warcraft commuity. There for I get the feeling that people will probubly vot for Heroes more then anything else.

Ok, I'm gonna try to reason with u Lupin. Still, don't you think that all the other games have something to do with Heroes? I mean, all these games are COMPETITIONS of Heroes, and to talk about Heroes is not only about the gameplay, but also the competitions and the improvements as well as how to defeat the competition. Don'
don't you think that matters too?

um ....... im just wondering how this got a red star i mean i like polls but theres been several other threads exactly like this one in the tavern asking what your favourite game is. Theres was even one about game spys top 50 games and what does eveyone think about them giving doom the top spot. How is this one different?

This is board for homm fans.(supposedly...)
I like homm series much more than the other 4 choices.
However, D_M, since your poll is
"WHICH GAME YOU THINK WILL PREVAIL IN THE END?"
I have to sadly pick Diablo........ 
(I assume by "prevail", you mean to have better sales)
I know nothing about half-life and counterstrike....
I have played the first one of Starcraft (just can't remember the name) but never a good player for it.
However, there are already too many RT games, warcraft, starcraft, C&C............., maybe next time, they will
have battlecraft, mooncraft, suncraft......... 
I don't know how CCW gets it result of 50 most favorable games.
By total sales ??? - that would probably pick the best-selling games and maybe great games. Nevertheless, this may also include some "non-gaming" factors such as marketing strategies etc. Besides, coz taste of ppl is in a vast diversity. By best-selling may only mean that game is "accepted by most ppl".
By voting from game players/fans ??? - then this would depend on the sample size. But I don't know much about statistics and have not much to say about it.
By voting from game developers/makers ??? - just like that top 50 list in Gamespy. Well, what game makers concern maybe different from us. They maybe look at innovativeness of games, technical perfectness of games, impact to game industries and etc. Their views are just like expert's opinion, but may mean nothing to us.
Arachnid, I also don't know why this poll got one quality point. Maybe it is due to this:

Diablo (a great game!) will die because it will be outdated. It's just hack and slash. Still, it gave the industry the boost that it needed at the time. I probably enjoyed Diablo more than Diablo 2.
PCGamer gave Heroes #29 out of 50. It mentioned how popular the game was = Quote:

Hmmm. Message boards? International? I wonder what board they are talking about?
Starcraft is a greater game than Heroes, even if I like Heroes more. Same with Half-Life, and some of the others like Sims. Still, it should be in the top 10!!!!
By the way, WarCraft2 was the GAME when it came out. Period. Same with Civ 2!

I'm back: there are many things to think about for the future
I noticed that some of you are saying the game list is limited. I admit, it is. I especially liked Sha_Men's defiant refusal to not vote, but I am quite offended at his remark about Diablo II. It's no personal offense, but I believe that Diablo II (and the original Diablo itself) is a very thrilling game, especially on B.Net. The animations and such are really cool not to mention the endless possibilities of training a character. This gives the game more depth than average RPG's, not like the usual RPG's where there's only one start and ONE ENDING (snore). Diabo I creates variety. Sha_men, I think you should really try out these games before you reject them and take in consideration that these games are choosen as one of the 50 BEST GAMES OF THE YEAR. If they all suck (I hope suck isn't a swear word), then why did they get voted as the best?

Hmmmmm....
I can't vote either I guess. It's like comparing apples and oranges. The entire Heroes series captured me as a fan forever! I just keep coming back for more. For me, it's the best series of games ever made.
But now I am playing Diablo II LoD until Heroes 4 comes out.
I noticed that someone said they "love" Heroes 4!? I will not fall in love over screenshots and news releases!!
I can't love it or hate it till it's on my machine and it WORKS and it's fun!
If you look on BattleNet for Diablo players you can find 54,000 of them on any server, any day of the week! If you check out the Zone for Heroes players you might find 200 on a good day and most of them are not playing. Diablo is a different game drawing more different kinds of players than Heroes ever will. Do I like Heroes? Sure, I can't wait!
Meanwhile, I gotta play something.

The "end" is not THE END, WHERE ALL GAMES STOP AND PEOPLE WILL HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO TO GET A LIFE. I meant the end as in which game would come out best after every one of it's series and such, not OH MY GOD COMPUTERS GAMES ARE GONE!!! I CAN"T BREATHE ANYMORE.

Heroes is the ultimate game for me...
and I've been an addict to computer games since 1986.
About the others, Diablo I was insanely addictive but Diablo II bored me a lot (I finished it only to see how the story ended). RTS is not my business so I can't vote there (I've played AOE a little only to have fun with a distant friend over the net), and I recognize that Half-Life (which I'm playing right now) is a very well developed game. It reminds me a lot of Duke Nukem 3D and that agressive but funny "Nukem way of life"... "It hurts to be you!!!"

first of all cs is a very old but yet popular game. HoMM is,and will always be,one of the best games I've ever played in front of a glaring monitor. It's the best! Long live HoMM and RPG maps! Long live WOG and campaigns! Long Live Soccerfeva!

I must say there are other great games. Give me HoMM,Fifa 2003, Championship Manager, Counterstrike,halflife..and the list of cs related games like deathmatch and team fortress..
and I'll guarantee you I'll stay in front of the monitor happily.
