Actually both milk and bread's prices have been rocketing for a few years.

Mainly because of world's wheat underproduction and Finland's diminishing milk production.

They are planning of dropping the food taxes again but that won't help.

It's expensive to eat in Finland. Although restaurants are about the same as in Germany.

In Belgium the prices of foodstuffs have risen to alarming rates

water: €0.65/bottle => €1.40
Bread: €1.50/loaf => €1.80
Cheese: €9.00/kilo => €11.00
Potatoes: €3.00/kilo => €4.50
Butter: €2.70/250g => €3.70
Steak: €20.00/kg => €24.50
Chewing gum: €0.60/package => €1.00
Salmon: €14.00/kg => €20.00
Herring: 10.00/kg => €14.00

And so it goes on...

Peoples wages haven't risen sadly
My familiy will manage to survive, but the poorer part of the population will get in trouble.

This is all because of our government, or rather the lack of having one. 9 months after the elections Flemish and Walloons finally made a truce and created a new government (with the Flemings, who are the majority in Belgium, in a heavy disadvantage). We're led by Yves Leterme, who, despite his undoubtably good and noble hat, is nothing more than a puppet of the Walloon Liberal Party, as the former PM ,Guy Verhofstadt, was a puppet of the Walloon Socialist party. Things should change in Belgium and the mounting prices are a righteous example of what is wrong in the small european state.

My apologies - I forgot to mention that everyone receives an additional 12,5% "vacation money" and for public servants 17,5% added to your personal pension funds. Workers in the private sector get between 5% and 15% in personal pension funds.

At the moment one of the major unions are on a strike. People who work in retirement homes are not satisfied with 2.500 euro per month and an 12.8% increase in wages over the next three years for work which demands no education.

And yes - the Danish flexicurity model works! Even though we have a right wing government at the moment that does everything to tear it down...

Hungary

Oh ye... 1 euro=243,81 HUF (Hungarian Forint; aka. Ft)

Just some interesting facts in advance: A few months ago the Hungarian National Bank called in all the 1 and 2 Ft coins. Nice eh? A country with no 1 or 2 denomination of it's money. Of cours you could do not much with 1 Ft but it's ridiculous anyway. Now when paying with cash they round the price... they don't if you pay with card.

So,
(these are gross salaries in HUF; monthly of course)

Secretary 148 100
Chief State Advisor 262 900
Singer, Actor, Musician 163 300
Camera Operator, Film Editor 228 300
Product Manager 411 100
Card Services Clerk 195 500
Police Officer 231 000
Firefighter, Rescuer 167 400
Chemical Engineer 330 000
Chemical Lab Technician 166 800
Cashier 93 500
Sales Manager 310 500
Account Manager 391 300
Architect 260 100
Bricklayer 127 200
Educator/Instructor/Carer 148 600
School Principal 264 800
Lawyer 307 600
Articled Clerk 154 700
Doctor 228 000
Nurse 130 900
Head Nurse 180 000
Dental Technician 141 800
Dentist 198 900

The data is from http://www.merces.hu/fizetesek

And so about prices:

An egg about 20-40 Ft (depend on measure and current market)
A roll is about 20-30 Ft
A loaf of withe bread (sliced) 200-300 Ft
A liter of milk  100-300 Ft (depend on brand, hyper-super-extra-mega pasteurized or not etc.)
Ticket for bus (one use only!) 250 Ft
Monthly ticket for bus and/or tram 2000-9000 Ft (depend on town and allowance)
Ticket for train 38kilometers, without allowance 600Ft (2nd class=dirt, noise, sometimes smell, sometimes seat, rarely a bin near)
Ticket for train 182km, 2780 Ft (2nd class); 3290 Ft (1st class= less dirt, less noise, slightly higher chanche to sit down and you may encounter a bin)
One year membership in University library (where I study) about 1500 Ft
A bottle of avarage wine 200-500Ft
A bottle of mineral water 100-200 Ft (1,5 L)
A bar of chocholate (Mercur, Venus, Earth, Mars, Twix etc) 70-140 Ft (depend on weigh and brand)
A tablet of chocholate (sorry I know no other word to say; Milka etc.) 150-300 Ft
A flat about 55m^2 to buy in a not luxury part of town about5-8 million Ft (5-8,000,000 Ft -but highly varies betveen towns, town-parts and individual flats)
House with garden about 15,000,000 but you may easily find for 45,000,000 (and it's not a palace)

That much now. If you are interested, you may serch on www.***.hu official pages, they all have English version.

Advice: Wouldn't you like to edit the masterpost to make it cleare which countries are discussed that far? The topic is short now but if it grows you won't know to post about your country or there were posts about it... but it's only a suggestion.

Doomforge I think u need to update your starting post because now you don't find a man who want to work for 300 euro.
Yes our price is high, like on the rest of UE but payments becomes too. And this is not contribution to strong unions of workers believe me.

All right, 350 euro is more realistic

Just read the topic and see how "high" our payments are here compared to other countries. Total failure
