Map Testing!

Ok, so I've made a map. I know my timing is lousy, but there's nothing to be done...
Anyway, I've tested the map myself, but still need people's opinion on it, you know - get it "officially" tested.
Yes, you got it right, I need playtesters, so if anyone is interested, please let me know, via e-mail (look in profile for address) or simply state here so and I'll send them the map asap.
Oh, it's a large map, but nothing story - oriented, so it shouldn't take to much of your precious time    with four playble factions (Castle, Tower, Inferno and Fortress).

hehe first advice: set starting towns to random, set towns will only lead to discussions.

Don't pay too much attention to Stiven, them TOH guys are pretty sensitive about everything that has to do with HOMM. Ooo, I have to start with Fortress? No way, are there set towns? Grrr, that makes me so mad!!! GRRRR!!! OOO, I refuse to play with set towns.

Sir Stiven: Some of us enjoys single player games once in a while, and if he's put down a lot of work on landscape and matching that with town type, then I think that's great and adds to the atmosphere.

You can mail me the map if you want, I'll try to make time to test it, although I can't promise anything (the adress is in my profile).

Greetings

Well...

...this map wasn't meant as a ToH map at all. It's meant mainly for singleplayer and hotseat game (it should work fine in multiplayer as well) or simply for having some fun, perfecting your battle skills or whichever you prefer.
Landscape does match town types, although it doesn't have to be a rule.
Anyways, I don't believe I'll randomize towns, but will consider this yet

Maps can be meant for all sorts of things, and I would *never* say 'random towns' without having at least *tried* the map ...

There does seem to be a very distinct TOH style of mapmaking.  I have still never played a TOH map ... I've just played dozens of other maps from other sites, posted reviews, sent back detailed playtesting reports ...

Sorry, Targon; I don't have time to playtest your map at the moment.  I don't get even one HOMM session a week at the moment.  But I do wish to say that there's more than one way to make a map - indeed, I prefer a style of map with high play value and low replay value - high story maps, with set towns and artifacts, designed for singleplayer.  I rarely get to replay a map.  And I do have time to talk about what you might want to do with a map -  I know a lot about the non-plain-vanilla techniques of mapmaking.  My forte is Story.

DonGio, i usually just ignore you. there is no need for us to fight since its obvious we dont share the same view about things. But i think its really stupid of you to judge someone else´s opinion just because they come from another place and therefor has other views. thats Racism.

Personally i dont even think you agree with this yourself, you are a troublemaker and therefor u want every thread to be a TOH vs rest of the HC fight. I think u prefer to choose towns too, that way u get more different ways to play a map so you wont get bored of it right away.

I couldn't disagree here with you, even if I wanted to.
Of course, story - based maps are somewhat different thing, since you do need a good story first.
And yes, I agree: people rarely get to replay a map, be it even a great replay. In story - based maps this even worsens, but anyway...
Oh, and keep those "non-plain-vanilla techniques of mapmaking" safe, I never know if I might need them

I also have a complete map that was ready for testing months ago, but forgot to ask anyone. So now I ask.

The map is called Follow the Arrow. If anyone would like to test it then just ask. I will accept any comments. And please, brutal honesty is what I want. I don't even care if you say that it sucks as long as you give good suggestions and point out any problems.

Follow the Arrow needs testing. It used to be in Toh, but I gave the wrong copy, which was inbalanced and in complete, but it was still playable. So I tryed to resubmit it, but it was too close to the release of Heroes 4, so the map page was no longer being updated. It's still a fun, but untested map, besides against computer.

Here's the first thing that I noticed. The theme idea is great. You should try to give artifact of each level that would fit well with that town. EX: Fortress should have things increasing it's defense skill and I liked the resistance idea too, so then fortress can't be dealt much damage from attacks and spells especially with tazar. With inferno and tower, try to do the same things. With Tower, you could add the golden bow. That would be deadly, since they have 3 shooters.

The one problem is that castle has a HUGE advantage early on in the game, because all of the other towns have rough terrain, which greatly decreases their possible movement each turn. Castle will be able to everything in their corner well before the other towns. Maybe you could change the town and landscape to Dungeon style with underground terrain. That wouldn't take longer than 5 to 10 min.

Other than the castle thing, the map is great.

Well, now I've played it, so lets get on to business... I like the map, it's cool looking and beautiful made. I don't know if you made it by hand, but if you did, it was a lot of work there, I can see. Wonderfull idea with those quests, tho I dunno who's really using those diamond golems. But the one with 12k exp is nice....
There are some problems tho.... RedSoxFan3 has already observed one. The other one is this: you've tried to balance all the castles and planted some third level creature dwellings there. It's OK, but the Tower s***s here, because the Golem Factory provides Iron, Gold and Diamond golems. So you have to fight to get it, while for the other towns you just go there and recruit.
That's about it. I just ahve one question: isn't there a quicker way of arriving back to your town than sea? Maybe you could change those monoliths to two ways.....this is just an idea.
Thanx for sending it

Ok...

...thanks a lot guys. Point taken
This is exactly why I insisted on playtesting it. Not everyone experiences a map in the same way. It's especially hard to be objective here since I made it myself.
Thanks a lot for your propositions, I'll certainly consider them. Creative critics - that's exactly what any mapmaker could wish for.
Right now the map is being tested by a few other people, and after it's done I will make appropriate changes and post it.
Thanks again for your time!

You could try to flag those third level dwellings. It doesn't change anything, just the fact that the Tower player will just recruit there, and not fight for it. The problem is that he won't be able to recruit gold and diamond golems. It's your choice.

You can use town events each week to increase the number of level 3 creatures that you can recruit instead. (Like in Giant War)
