Hey there USAthiest --

Once again the written word can be misleading.  I did not feel angry.

And once again, thanks.  This was fun.

Neither did I. It takes a lot to really get me angry anymore. My biggest fault as far as posting habits go is that I rarely use "smileys"/emoticons and this sometimes leads others to the impression that I am scowling behind the monitor.

[offtopic]US Atheist,

I've sent you some Instant Messages ... did you not get them or are you ignoring me? [/offtopic]

I'll delete this post when I get an answer.

I got one after disabling my pop-up blocker to allow it and I have responded to that one.

Side note: Insulting people you disagree with is no better through IM than through forum posting.

Again, I am not angry. I seriously doubt ANYONE can get me angry through the internet anymore. WHen you are a skeptic you get used to all manner of insults and the prevailing double standard we are under. None of it is worth losing sleep over or pulling hair out.

I sent you another IM. Please beleive me when I say I did not mean to insult you. If I did I am sorry and I apologize. I've never sent a flame IM to anyone on HC and I'm not about to start

Funny how I perceived you insulted me when we first met and later you perceive I insulted you. Just a funny coincidence.

No matter, I hope my IM clears it up as this certainly was not my wish. I don't find this thread distasteful and I read all of it as soon as someone posts.

In fact, it's very insightful.

I hope we can put this behind us.

No problem. I would not have even mentioned it as it is relatively trivial to me but I do the same for southerners here in the U.S. who refer to blacks as "coloreds". They do not mean to insult blacks (usually). They just don't realize the nature of what they are saying and how it sounds to blacks. Perhaps a more appropriate analogy is with people who see a woman in an office and ask her to "Get me some coffee...?" because they assume she is a secretary(rather than a CEO or what have you).

Similarly, your comment/question to me in IM was an all-to-common affront(often intentional but usually not) towards people who engage in debate(especially from the skeptics' side of the fence).

On a related note: I have now gone back to lengthy posting in other forums(specifically the "Other games" forum) just to show that I am not visiting a HoMM MB for thet purpose of seeking out debate opponents.

you know, I'd have nothing against someone who likes debating these issues. In fact, I researched the net myself for such topics and have stumbled upon good debates that had been going on. The thought had crossed my mind to post, but I didn't because I didn't know anyone on that site.

But you could have been different. My choice of words where poor indeed, but it was very much an innocent comment since it is not becoming of me to insult someone over IM simply because I disagree... Besides, Svarog would hate me if I did.

Now, since it seems like Peacemaker and I are done arguing with USAtheist either for lack of time or for any other reasons, I'd like to bring this thread back to it's roots, that is to say, talking about spirituality.

NOTE: I have nothing against debating this impossible question in this thread, but to cut into the debate would of been a futile attempt to bring back this thread to what I wanted it to be. So I waited it out; not because I don't want to hear about it, but specifically because it's important not to cut or stop the debate. Sadly, I doubt many people read all the posts after what has been going on.

Alright, on to the spirituality.

During this interminable debate I've been reading a few books on Spiritualism and they've been most helpful.

It seems there are different degrees to clairvoyancy and this is etheric, astral and mental. After reading these books I can say that what the authors describe as being etheric is what I see. At the beginning, I was reading about this stuff and then I'd notice I wasn't seeing the same things as where written... so I went about looking at this matter more closely to discover that it was indeed like it was described, only I had never noticed it before now! I was happy to find this out. It seems reading these books did me a world of good and I'm eager to read more.

In essence, I've been able to scrutinize what I see and to learn about this too, from other's experiences. It seems knowledge helps you focus and reveals you more of what there is.

Anyways, I just wanted to share this with you in hopes of revitelizing this thread.

Dear Conan --

So sorry we temporarily highjacked your thread!!!!

And yes -- let's return to our dialogue.  You know, Svarog asked me once just exactly what my philosophy on life was, and now that USAthiest has gotten me thinking about it again,  I for one will try to start addressing some of the topics I have thoughts about (why am I reluctant to use the word "beliefs?"  LOL!!!!!)

At any rate, in the next few days I have an art show to get ready for, and my father just got out of the hospital and I need to go see him.  So my contribution to the revitalization of this topic will have to wait for now.

That is all well adn good but the point I am getting at is that something cannot be both "Round" and "Not round". If you personally are defining "square" in such a way that it is a "possibly round shape". then that is fine, whatever your reasoning for doing so. The point I am making about logical contraidction though is that something CANNOT be defined by two contradictory qualities such as "flat  and completely lacking flatness" or "Only two dimensional but also three dimensional".

How about being both a particle and a wave?  How about being both matter and energy?

Quantum physics and such do not indicate "spiritual truths" any more than other branch of science does. Things just behave somewhat differently at the quantum/micro level than they do at the general/macro level but not so differently that,

Perhaps this is just linguistics, but it is important.  Quantum mechanics does not say that things behave differently at the "quantum/micro" level.  The exact same rules apply to small things as to big things, the exact same equations describe their behavior.  Big things behave the same as small things.  However, for  most of the macroscopic world, Newtonian mechanics provides an adequate approximation of an objects behavior.  If you had enough computing power, you could also do a quantum mechanical treatment of say, a Pedro Martinez fastball, but it wouldn't be sufficiently more accurate for it to be worth it.

What about the apparent breakdown of causation at the quantum level?

I haven't quite wrapped my mind around the most recent stuff yet,, but your reference to the wave/particle issue indicates maybe you have.

Perhaps this is a slightly easier jumping off point for such considerations:

bort, if you have any articles that concisely introduce this arena of topics would you mind sharing them?  I'm not doing real great with finding any....

Conan -- (and USAthiest)

This looks like a good starting place for the relationship I see between quantum physics and my view of the less-than-visible "Mind" characteristics of the universe (which some people would call "spiritualism" but I'm not certain I agree with that term since it is vague and has a lot of baggage attached to it that is irrelevant to what I am trying to say.)

Hi,
I've been a spiritual person all my life, but never had the time to really go into great depth in it. Recently, I started reading spiritual books because it seems my taste came back for it and it got me wondering what other people consider spirituality to be.

Of course, I find the best place to talk over some of this stuff would be here with my fellow HC friends.

So, I'll give you what I think of when I talk spiritual and maybe we could get an interesting discussion going on here.

For me, it all has to do with Energy. It is not a question of beleifs, I actually see it and feel it. I manipulate it a bit, but not as much as I'd like to. I firmly beleive that everything that exists is made up of energy, that in the void between protons and electrons, there is energy. This Energy is part of us and is what connects us to each other. I've taken meditation classes to better understand this energy and it helped, but at the time, I was not ready for it. Maybe I shall try again.

Anyways, before I go on, I'd like to hear what others have to say on this before I bore you to death with my own experiences.

EDIT: Notice I have not mentionned religion anywhere in my statement. That is because I am Atheist. I do not beleive in religion. For me, there is a clear distinction between religion and spirituality.

Good questions, what is spirituality. According to the dictionary which is mans words describing concepts etc, spirituality is actually quite vague.  To me spirituality can be a few things, basically a connection to a belief in spirituality or powers beyond the body and mind.

Spirituality is like a primary skill in HomM, which leads to potentially secondary skills such as religion, theology, psychic abilities (which I do believe in), and seeing auras, seeing things ahem, with a vision that see's many aspects of what you are looking at. Of course, some of the "secondary skills" can lead to the primary skill spirituality, but spirituality is the foundation of many of these things. I can study tarot cards, and things of this nature for years and never achieve spirituality until one day something happens, or maybe nothing out of the ordinary occurs at all, and wallah, a spiritual awakening.

I tend to consider myself very spiritual. I mean in a strange out of this world kind of way. Signifying things would be my semi evil appearing avatar and my signature about being on gods side. I always pictured myself as an angel with grey wings. Back from hell. I used to want demonic powers as well which is part of the hell I've been through. But a black cat, with red and a dark background, is a perfect fit for me. I love animals, I think cats are the most spiritual creatures (not including spiritual humans), and I'm kind of evil but I'm on gods side.

I also think spirituality is the beginning to breaking through that 6, 7, 8, or 9 or 10% of the brain we use. But that would seem at first to say mind and spirit are the same, but what must be taken into consideration is that the mind becomes enlightened.

So I hope that all of us enlighten our minds and grow spiritual in the many paths we decide to go. We can choose paths, and some paths are already laid before us, but in my spiritual eyes its all the same. What kind of world would it be with only one god perception, and 50% believers 50% non believers? (Actually not to bad lol) but that doesn't matter, this is the world we have, and these are the things of our lives we must deal with sooner or later.

If I had to end my speaking now I would end one a good note, that spirituality is based on a new way of seeing. There is that 3rd eye everyone's talking about, and its spiritual. Sometimes all psychic no spiritual, but generally using that eye of the mind involves a lot of spirituality.

Thanks for reading.

edit: What is spirituality to you?
