Lords Of Tanaran

Please make your character in the OoC first.

A rouge trader found a portal to a new world. One day while sailing through the Sea of Turmoil, his ship was caught in a storm and wandered into the path of what seemed to be a magical portal. With his seamanship skills, he tried to steer his ship clear, but alas he was drawn into the portal. He believed he was doomed, but only to find they had emerged from the bright lights of the portal into a calm and peaceful sea of blue waters. Eventually, he found land and sailed to it. The new world seemed strange, but was similar to his own. There was green grass, tall trees, rivers and mountains.
Lakes were brimming with fish and there were even pools that flowed with the magical substance known as mana. The rouge set out to claim this land as his own.
But the rouge trader was not the only person to stumble across the island, you have also found your way there. Will you go on a quest for riches, glory or just relax in the beauty that is Tanaran. What happens now is your choice...

Detestra

Steeping through the portal she made one last check that her instruments were in place. They were, the beach was already crowded with all sorts.

Elves and Ogres, even a cat person or two. Those were staring at the Vermen in mistrust and flicking their claws. It did her heart good to see such open hatred.

There were also more undead here than she'd ever seen in one place, and not on a killing rampage. Most if them were swathed in black cloaks, but she could tell. Nothing smells like an undead, and she had a good nose.

Could be easy pickings here thought Yowl, her pet Hellcat and best friend. Though it'd be nice to find a travelling companion until we find our feet.

'The only travelling companion I need is you', I told him, stroking his ego. He fluttred up to my shoulder and went back to preening himself, getting the sand out of his paws.

Still he had a point, I scanned the beach to see if I could find a likely companion....

A young, pale-faced lad smelling of cheap perfume looks at the crowd from a distance. He scanned through dozens, if not hundreds of adventure seekers in search for someone resourceful. As skilled as I may be, he thought, I'd rather have someone to work with. And so, he continued sitting there, biding his time, and wondering if he can find the right person.

Smoothing his clothes, Slith straightened to have a better look at the lot scattered around. And a rather colorful lot it was...

If he was going to explore around there he was probably going to need someone to watch his back.
When it came to that, there really wasn't a lot to choose from around here: braindead barbarians  and word twisting witches, one as bad as than the other.

This really isn't the time to be picky! he thought to himself. One of these will have to do...

Having another look around he spots a lone man watching the crowd from some way off. Judging from his clothes, probably not the barbarian type...which means he must be...I suppose his better than what I've seen so far...

With that thought in mind he starts toward the fellow.

Irr saw a cat person approaching. Hopefully he'll be worth my time, he thought, and with a grin, made himself appear as a blond elf in a dark green robe. The cat person stopped for a while, closed his eyes, opened them again and looked confused. This didn't stop him though, and when the cat person was close, Irr stood up.
'The name is Irr. What's yours, my feline friend?' said Irr.
'Slith' said the cat person. 'I assume you're looking for-'
'A partner in business, yes' Irr interrupted.
'Are you some sort of shapeshifter? And what's with the perfume?' said Slith, covering his nose with his hand.
'Nah, definetely not a shapeshifter.' Irr grinned. 'You'll learn more about me soon enough. First things first. I'd like to know what you're good at.'

Inferiority run rampant...

Hurt was angry. No, more he was furious. His father had been killed and his honour smashed into a thousand pieces.
How dare they, the likes of men, the lowest form of life, take him, the son of none other than Kilmo the Merciless.

Now, as if only to rub it in as much as possible, they had left him stranded on a beach amongst outcasts. People who obviously could not fit into a community were left standing on this godforsaken beach in the land of men, and Hurt was standing as if he were at the same hierarchical as they were.

Of course this was an outrage, Hurt was used to being the top of the food chain, taken the respect handed to him for granted.
He would make them pay, if he had to work himself back up again. Hurt knew that he, of course being the son of Kilmo, had what it takes to do what was needed to become bigger, better and more powerful than all, as things were meant to be.

"ARRRRGH!" the utter frustration that was boiling up in Hurt's thick skull was unimaginable. He slammed his fist down on the sand, creating small tremors and startling the other people. They were talking amongst themselves, looking for a partner in business. Hurt caught onto the idea, it seemed like a smart thing to do. If that was what it'll take, Hurt was willing to put himself at their level for now.

For now...

"I look for travel companion. I have strong arm and could break all yours skulls with my bare hands. I keep you safe, you help me in return. Look for travel companion."

Watching the dark elf struggle out of the sea, spewing up water, I notice his lithe body and developed physique.
Watching him run off into the forest instead of milling about the beach like the others my curiosity is piqued.

Yowl's also noticed the sudden movement.
Dark Elf, he sends. Probably wants to avoid sunburn. I could follow if you like

Nodding my assent I watch him fly after the dark elf. I knew he wouldn't be seen. The camouflage ability of Hellcats was second to none.

If the dark elf did anything interesting, Yowl would let me know.
Sitting on a rock I took out my harp and begn to play.

My music would surely attract some attention......

"Lead me down the way of dusty death..."

And with that, the mysterious rower was gone, the echo of his elegaic dirge fading as the figure disappeared into the mists. Xerxes turned from the shoreline and knelt, his rotten face cringing silently deep within the mask that he so willingly bore. After but a moment, he stood, surveying the crowd that had gathered on the beach, hoping that none of them got in his way. The death knight did not want to do anything drastic, but there were things that needed to be done.

Xerxes bore an unnamed sorrow deep inside, unmatched by any and hidden from all. In death, many are freed, but not he. Xerxes was bound by cruel fate to this unforgiving earth, and was forbidden from peace until his task in this world was done. He would accomplish what he had set out to do, no matter the cost.

Wasting little time, the death knight turned from the crowd and headed south along the shoreline.

Here is the map for the latest update

Detestra
You sit and play, waiting for anyone to wander over. You watch as your pet disappears into the distance, he should return soon with some information. People begin to stare at you; one quite like yourself has obviously not been seen around these parts. Despite this, people gather to listen to your music, gather at a distance that is. They are all petty merchants and foragers of the area. The people of interest are further down the shore. You begin to wonder whether you will talk with the locals, or go somewhere a little more interesting…

Hurt
People slowly move away from you in fear… it seems that a man of your physique is daunting to the locals. Slowly a man makes his way over to you. He moves cautiously, ready to run at any moment.

Man: Son, how would you like to join me at my colosseum? I run weekly fights and I could use a Gladiator like you!

Gorman
You run towards the woods, which are much further than you first imagined. You follow the long river, which leads straight into the woods. You are still weary and you need a place to rest. You will not make it to the woods before your body collapses on you. As you push over a small hill along the river, you notice a small tent just beyond it. You stumble in but the occupants are not home, nor are they anywhere to be seen. You could stay and rest if you want or you could push further…

Xerxes
You begin to travel south, ignoring the little acts the others are performing for attention. A merchant runs up to you wanting to sell goods. You turn to see what he has but you continue walking after seeing a variety of foods. You travel swiftly, not wanting any further interruptions. You begin to think about matters at hand and before you know it, the sun is setting. As you walk you pass a tavern you wonder if you should stop by, maybe stay the night. The Tavern looked dark, the wood rotting away, just the way you like it. However, you could push on if you wanted…

Blood guts and glory...

Hurt did not notice this man for who he was; a stout, dark skinned man in light armour- he noticed him as one of them; weakling.

The man had offered him to fight.

"My name is Nissin. You go to the Arena, buy equipment, and you are sent out to fight. If you survive the fight, you win gold. An... individual of your size and strength would fare very well."Nissin said, showing him some gold as if to convince Hurt, with the lure of money.

Even though Hurt desperately needed money, the thrill of the fight and the attraction of sheer violence was enough.

"You have caught my interests. Who will I be kill?"Hurt was getting excited.

"Bandits, wild animals, beasts, monsters... sometimes even other gladiators and militia-"

"Militia?! Yes! I shall join and make them pay... pay for the life of my father with their blood in which I so long to bathe..."Hurt said, clenching his fists.

"Excellent. That reminds me- at the end of each year, the Lord of our Arena makes a tournament- "Conquest" where all combatants entering are sealed off in the arena, and only one is left to leave. With a very large sum of gold, and a very great reputation. No other combatants may be left alive- a real battle."

He just went into some tent. But he's just sitting there, I can't see him. And I'm hungry! I can hear chirpy things in the woods. Probably birds. I could just go for a quick bite and then I'll be back.....

I sighed, wishing I could talk to Yowl with my thoughts the way he does to me. But I hadn't got the hang of it yet, not without keeping my inner thoughts guarded.
I knew he wouldn't lose the dark elf anyways, it's just that cats will be cats, and he didn't want to feel that his independence had been compromised.

Putting up my harp I surveyed the crowd watching. Merchants for the most part, no fighters or spellcasters among them unless they were well disguised.
Smiling widely I showed them my teeth and turned on the charm.

'Gentlemen' I cooed. 'I'm so glad you liked my playing. I am but a humble traveller to these lands, and...alas...I find myself without much coin to buy food or materials to keep my instruments in good mend....'

Predictable. The merchants began to donate a few coins each, and by the time they were done I had a heavy purse of copper and silver, with a few sparkles of gold. Those I tucked away into my flute case incase I needed them later.

I started walking south along the beach until I had lost ost of the crowd. I was vaguely aware of Yowl purring in the back of my head. He must have caught dinner. I could use some myself.

Taking to the air I flapped my wings lazily. The thermals rising from the sea breeze made  flying much easier along the coast, and I continued south at a lazy pace.

I soon noticed a lone figure trudging along below me. I slowed down and matched his pace, circling if I got too far ahead.
Looking in front I noticed a ramshackle inn, he seemed to be heading for that. I had my suspicions that he was undead, but that didn't bother me. I was very hard to kill.
Plus an inn could mean a free meal, if I played my music for them and the inkeeper wasn't too stingy.
I decided it was the inn for me, so I flew ahead and entered the inn.

The inn was in a sorry state of repair, it's walls thick with damp and the sawdust at least a month old and tamped into the ground. Still, I needed to sleep somewhere tonight and I'd slept in worse before. I ordered a drink and took out my flute, cleaning it and watching the door, incase the mystery traveller came through it.

MentalGore

There has been tales of many heroes, many villians, many beasts. But one hasn't been totally unraveled in the same way, The Name Is MentalGore. One day, in the middle of the Afternoon; MentalGore just wandered around having an enoumous headache. It was like the past was creeping and lurking closer like a foul wind...

MentalGore: Uuugh!! What is happening to me.. Must.. fight it off!... I hunger for battle!
MentalGore slashes his sword into the air

MentalGore: Blasted Head, i wish i was fully undead so these things couldn't hurt me anymore, i'd better find the necromancer again... He might have something against this ... this... Curse of mine..

I sat down, just looking... "life" isn't easy.. not even when you don't have it...

OoC: Thanks Asmo, I guess you made my decision for me

*As I enter the tent I search for any valuables the occupants might own. Such as food or canteens of water that I can take with me. My keen elven senses hear something outside so I stand by the door and remain motionless to turn invisible while waiting to see what the noise making thing might be. I stand and wonder how long the occupants of the tent will be gone and what exactly the occupants are. I'm guessing human since I doubt an ogre or troll would be as intellegent to set up a tent. After a couple minutes I notice something that looks like a large cat slinking through the forest keeping its eyes on the tent opening, almost as though searching for something inside it. For all I know that could be me. Taking my bow off my shoulder I move back to the far corner of the tent and sit down, an arrow at the ready, sitting still as stone again to become invisible and wait for something to come through that door...*

Frowning at the strong smell of perfume Slith takes a long look at the odd man, measuring him, trying to figure him out.
'Well, I suppose if we were to travel together...Its meddling with unnatural things and magic that I despise. I don't fear magicians and their foul magic for I have found ways around their deceptive arts and can take care of such things with relative ease.'

Eyeing the man up and down again he adds,
'Well then, Irr?How about you tell me a wee bit about yourself as well before we set off? And I do hope you didn't bring any more of that dreadful perfume...I will never get used to that...'

Irr looked around to see if there was anyone observing them. Not seeing anyone, he sighed and turned back to Slith.
'Well, I hope you're better at overcoming other people's deceptive magics.' he said, and discarded his elven disguise.
'YOU SAID YOU'RE NOT A SHAPESHIFTER!' Slith shouted, shocked with the sight of Irr turning into an undead.
'Shh,' Irr hissed, putting his finger on his mouth. 'Never, ever shout this kind of thing. And I am not a shapeshifter, but an illusionist. This is what I really am. Now do you understand why I need the perfume? And I'll keep using it till I can get something better.'
Irr took on the appearance of a handsome young human with blond hair, wearing a red coat. 'Shall we be off?' He said and, without waiting for Slith's response, set off to the east.

Slith took a few longer strides to catch up with Irr and pulls up next to him, matching his pace as they walk to the east.

'You are undead? Did you do this to yourself? I've heard of men hungry for power turn themselves into liches... ' Slith says in an uneasy voice.
'It is an ill fate to be forced to live as a walking rotting corpse if you ask me...Are you rotting?'

Looking away he sayd in a contemptuous voice,' Its all wrong... This sort of meddling with unnatural things... Life should be life and the dead should stay dead...'
Turning to face his companion again he added, 'But I suppose you got it under control. I mean, you know what you're doing, right?'

With that he fell silent, waiting for a response.

It was growing late, but the dead needed not sleep, even on the longest of days. The rickety old shack could, however, serve the death knight in other ways, for within sat people who likely knew the lay of the land. Inside lay direction to his goal, the guiding force that would drive him toward his peace. He headed toward the small tavern, feeling that he would fit in nicely with the band of vagabonds and vagrants that had likely gathered there, for Xerxes deemed himself worthy of as low a stature as they. Shame alone bound him to his goal.

The room was surprisingly crowded, many natives had gathered here, most of them laughing and speaking loudly to another vastly different from themselves. Races of all types had congregated in this one little building, each peculiarity overlooked as different cultures mixed. This, it seemed, was the mixing pot of Tanaran, the one, and perhaps the only, place where all were tolerated and accepted. He knew it would not be so as his journey led him further away from where he had come.

The large knight ducked and entered into the room, shoving his way to the bar, where all adventurers "knew" the best information settled. Xerxes cringed at the stereotype he was falling into, but the bar was the easiest to reach, and it was there that he would be able to get in and out the quickest. He got the bartender's attention and began to ask his first question, only to be cut off by the stout little man.

"So, ya gonna order something, big fella? We don't give out that kind of delicate information for free, ya know. There's gotta be some, how do you say it...uh, compensation. Yeah, that's it, compensation," said he with a wily grin.

This man had obviously dealt with his share of greedy adventurers out for plunder and adventure in the great wide world of Tanaran. Xerxes gritted what teeth he had left inside his helmet while keeping his eyes steadily fixed on the barkeep.

"I'm not thirsty," he tinkered out, trying to keep his composure.

"Well then, you're outta luck, my friend. We don't help freeloaders here, so begone with ya," the barkeep retorted, though not without a measure of restraint. He did not want Xerxes to lose his temper, though the death knight would never have done so anyway. It would only have slowed his progress. Xerxes would play the good guy here in civilization.

Just as the death knight was about to turn and go, several coins slid down the bar and settled in front of him, catching both he and the bartender off guard. A feminine voice whose owner was masked by the crowd commanded the barkeeper to get Xerxes a strong vodka and the information that he wanted. The stout man didn't move for several moments, perhaps deciding if he would take this offer or not, but then quickly scooped the coins off the counter, prepared the drink, and contemptuously asked Xerxes what it was he needed to know.

The death knight, shocked at his turn of luck, tried to catch a glimpse of his savior, but to no avail. His gaze shifted quickly back to the waiting bartender, and he gathered his thoughts and asked his question.

"Any idea where this man lives?" he asked, sliding a picture covertly toward the barkeep.

"Not seen him around these parts for years, but I'd say your best bet would be to head southwest, onto the Baratill Plains."

"Thanks for your help," Xerxes said dryly, standing and turning from the bar, finally catching a glimpse of his hooded aid: a small, cloaked frame whose only distinction was a pair of horns protruding slightly above her head. Not wishing to linger any longer, Xerxes quickly made his way back to the door and left the musty tavern behind.

But who was that mysterious woman? Why did she help Xerxes? Was he to see her again on his journey?

Only time, it seemed, would provide him with answers.

Hunt of the Necromancer

OOC: From now on, MG will be MentalGore. .oO() will be thoughts.

I sat there thinking about where he could be, a necromancer with the power to raise me to this being must have some powers that grow past the vast strenght of the normal necromancer, but where would such a creature go to? I don't have the powers to get to a necropolis so thats out of the question.. My journey will commense..

MG: .oO(I'd better start moving.. Fortunetly for me my wings will give me a bit of an advantage getting an air side view...)

It's a tough time for reanimated beasts, not wanted anywhere, and wishing to be wanted. Life losses much of it's meaning, the only thing that really matters is slaughtering, which really losses it's passion with time..

The ethics of being a beast of power really grasps you when your minds isn't completely decayed yet, when you still have some kind of reality pounding inside you telling that killing isn't bad, but when the rest of you lusts for it with a strenght of a million men, then nothing will hold you back when your standing there and you can smell the blood...

MG: I will find him, he shall not escape the words of my justice.

MentalGore kept flying over the lands searching for the Necromancer..
