I didnīt understimated Argentina. Itīs a great team. Argentina and France today are the best teams, but they arenīt corresponding with it. Argentina tied with Cameroom(I donīt know how spell it in English) and France lost the last game. Brazil have some problems because doesnīt have enough time to train in WC Eliminatory (only two or three days, at most before the games), and having so many players(I listed some good players above) there were too many players in the squad in the WCE.
Marcos/Dida are good keepers. But in some games they have some errors(i donīt know how to say this in english correctly). Dida is awful with his legs and Marcos sometimes fails(like in Palmeiras x Manchester United, 1999 - Tokyo). But my favorite keeper is Rogerio Ceni, of São Paulo. He is great. It is the keeper that has done more goals in the history(in free kicks), about 23.
Brazil have a great squad, they only need to practive together.

Yup... Practice is what Brasil dont have. On the other hand, Argentina is hungry for success. That is why I think Arg. will do better than Brasil.

And so is England. They too are hungry for a cup. I think they have great chance this year. Excellent squad, and a cool trainer. My favorites are England and Argentina.

again,

go Owen go

Ugh....

Can I just say.. England Vs. Sweden.. what a disaster!

The English defence was a travesty... no formation at all.. at one point three defenders went for the same ball.  Although the swedish goalie made some awful mistakes (the words "stay on your ******** line" mean anything I wonder?) the Swedish defence looked solid, whereas Sven made several severe mistakes.  These were:-

1. Playing two semi-fit players:- Beckham and Dyer.  I have no idea what he was thinking of, but neither were very effective.

2. The defensive formation.  The defenders available did little in the way of staying in formation or any actual defending.

3. Playing Hesky.  What in the world possesed him to play Hesky I will never know.  Heskey spends more time on the floor than he does scoring goals.  The fact that the only goal came from a defender who has never before scored at interantional level must surely say something?

4. Playing Mills.  The man too stupid to know how to replace a corner flag.  i really hate Mills, and one bad apple...

Also, the level of assists was dissapointingly low... move over Sven, if you get payed for that, I want the job!

Some opinions:

Yupp, i guess Hedman was "to blame" for english first goal. Either you go and and youre 100% that u gonna take the ball or you dont go out at all. My guess is that Hedman had been told before the game to be on his toes for these crosses since England have some great players in the air especially at set pieces when both Campbell&Ferdinand is up front too. Unfortunately Hedman isnt used to do this and there for that mistake i guess.

Beckhams ability at set pieces for England is vital for them, they have great players in the air but they need the right crosses too. And to me Beckham is the only one that knows how to deliver them. Dyer could have been an injection but lucky enuf he wasnt to be recognized at all from his Newcastle performances, it looked like the ball was his worst enemy and wanted away from his feet at every prize.

First half both Ferdinand and Campbell were great in my opinion since swedens attacking game became way to predictable. Play a few passes, pass it back too Mjällby and he hits as hard as he can and if are lucky we get it. But most of the time we didnt. In the second half we became way more aggressive and won the ball closer to their goal. So they never got the time to rest since we attacked over and over. And finally we got results from it, a big difference was also Anders Svensson when he came in. He also brought Ljungberg into the game more so we had players storming in from everywhere all the time. No team cant defend from that unless midfielders helps out more.

The fact that heskey played were both good and bad in my opinion, the good part is that Seaman had an option every time for his kicks, send em to Heskey and he tries to flick em on for Owen or Vassel. The bad part is that they did it all the time, their game were really easy to predict so out defenders just took control over Vassel and Owen and Heskey and nothing to do when he won all of those duells in the air.

Yupp Mills were bad, he was good in his offence the first few minutes since Ljunberg usually goes into middle much from his left wing and all the marking went to Beckham. That left lots of space for Mills.

Overall i think Sweden deserved the win, Lucic had some great chances and Linderoths rocket were so close from being the winner. Player of the game in my opinion was Andreas Jakobsson, he has played 2 games this year at national team and then he pulls of a performance like this when Patrik Andersson is injured. Jakobsson RUELD out defence.

Vassel and Beckham played superb even i can see this and i hope they lose all there matches, am i the only one to really think owen is really crap? Hes a one trick pony and cant even take it past a defender in front of him. All he done was tried to run at them and lost the ball its pretty embarassing, but so was the same tactic (if you can call it that) of just smacking the ball up front all the time from the back.

All owen has is pace and the ability to dive badly (see England V Argentina 4 years ago...).  Personally I don't rate the boy... man mark him or put him up against a well paced defense and he doesn't even exist on the field.

England team is very popular here (Hong Kong) due to historical reason but they are never my cup of tea.

The biggest mistake IMO in their match vs Sweden is their attitude. It seems they lost themselves in 2nd half, attack or defense ??? they just don't know what to do and they leave just TOO MUCH space for swedish players and so they pay for that.

Mistake playing Becks? please... he was all England had that game. When he was substituted, England ceased to exist. And Heskey is point man no. 1 in the world today. No other player wins so many duels in the air and on the ground versus good defenders as he does. And in addition, he's capable of holding the ball for probably an entire match. And Owen was voted european player this year. Must be his pathetic skills...

And who would you rather Svennis used than Dyer and Beckham?

Agree with the Mills part, though. I don't even think he'd get a place in Saudi-Arabia's squad.

But Italy won, so I'm happy-happy. A bit boring to shut the game down after scoring two goals, but I have a feeling they know what they're doing.

Since so many crap threads in tavern now i thought id bring up one of the best threads created so far...

Just wanted to remind you that tomorrow the 3rd and last round of champions league qualifyers is drawn. Which is very interesting to atleast me since Newcastle will enter this competition at that time. Lots of rumours going on now, the "hottest" one right now says that Newcastle is trying to sign Rivaldo on a free transfer. Myself i really dont hope this is the case, i am yet to figure out what he could add to the Newcastle squad except maybe more merchandise sold...

Oh, when are those UEFA cup draws btw Catherine?

This thread is alive? Glad it is...Thought if one would ressurect it would be the betting one...

Stiven, I think Rivaldo could bring a lot to NUFC, he can bring a lot to any club, so where's the problem? He still plays masterfuly and I doubt we would see his antics from WC in England...
There's a place for him...Solano, Rivaldo, Dyer and Robert, and ahead Shearer and one of the best forwards in England, Bellamy...That's pretty scary attacking force if you ask me, especialy with Rivaldo...

Anyway, even Rivaldo couldnt help you get on top this year. We had our year off, got ourselves Rio, and ready for some 'trophy hunting'. If MU doesn't cross its path with Zagreb in third round of preliminary stage of Champions League, we might even win that too!

PS...betting thread was better fun for me but I doubt any of these threads would get QP...half of the mods doesn't know what is football, other half doesn't like it...so no matter how good a post can be, there wont be any QPs...hope I'm wrong, maybe Djive would give some when we post our interpretation of what is offside...

Nah i dun like the idea of Rivaldo at St James:s Park. First of all Rivaldos wage demands would be Shearers&Dyers&Roberts all together. And he has a reputation of being a troublemaker and and those class movie stunts at WC didnt make things better either. Newcastle have already bought Hugo Viana, the according to italian coaches most promising youngster in Europe to that position. As for striker options i could only see him as a backup to Shearer since both Cort and Ameobi are yet to start performing after injuries. Bellamy and maybe Robert, Dyer is competiting for other forward place but it will prolly go to Bellamy in important games if he is fit. But an attacking midfield with Robert-Jenas-Dyer-Solano wouldnt be that bad either

Nah i say that Newcastle should save that Ģ8m he would cost for two years and spend that on a quality commanding central defender instead. Our attacking options already is world class but unfortunately our defence could use some improvement. If it wasnt for Given we would never had qualified for CL qualifyers last season, but even he needs better support if we are going to bring home some silverware this season.

MU just got drawed with Zagreb...man who to support? Home team or team I support for a long time now? That's it Zagreb pass hungarians first...but anyway Manchester will be in town again and I'll definately be there to watch them...
...and on the other hand I doubt I'll want Zagreb to pass vs MU, as I hate our domestic football and most of the clubs...

8 mil for Rivaldo? Thats about 80000 per week...plenty of money, but Newcastle isn't Chelsea, they have it...

Well, how about we hold bets on the weekly fixtures for the new season? It would be possible (Chelsea will lose up untill Xmas ) and a lot of fun.  And whoever wins can walk away with a cardboard cut out of the FA cup lol.

Good news for me is that Gudjonsen is staying (thank god), bad news is that Melchiot has jumped on the more moeny bandwagon.
