Nature confirmed at the recent con in Germany

"...you could see somthing really new: There was a big tree, whose likeness reminded me of an ent fom LotR - this ws a creature and called "treant". Near the treant in a short distance you could see some other so far unknown creatures: druids and elder druids. In addition, there was a town on the map, which reminded me of the nature town from H4."

How the heck can they turn their backs on the Barbarians? They've been present in the Heroes of Might and Magic universe since the beginning! And don't tell me it's 'couse there's going to be a whole new universe, unless, of course, you approve getting a mouthful of my foot!

Creature Abilities

Royal Griffin - Can leave the combat for a turn and can then return to attack an enemy (I think you already knew this).
Archer - Can shoot multple arrows
Cleric - Can cast bless and an offensive spell

Combat

There is a way that you can fight in battles except by turns. It seems that creatures have another attribute which is initiative. This matters greatly as you can defeat your enemy faster. If you fight against some peasants( which have a low initiative) you can get your units to attack him fast, but if you just stand around there, the peasant will attack.

The Battlefield

As Fabrice already said, it will be large if there are more than 7 units on the battlefield and smaller if less.

Camera during battles

During battles, when you are attacked or when you attack your enemy, the camera will change to 1st person view.

Spells

Well, I know about 2 spells :
Stoneskin - The animation is something like...the enchanted unit is covered with stones.
Bolt - Some kind of Ice bolt animation.

Well, actually...it doesn't act like that all the time...sometmes it doesn't change at all, sometimes it just changes at another angle...not just 1st person.

They have said that this option is only for the first times to see more detailed what is happen whe you do something new in the game... for me this sounds like when each unit attack for the firt time the camera change... and they also said that his function will be optional...

Aside from nice but old pictures, there has been no news for two weeks there. The official forum is dead at the moment, with beta testers moving to the closed boards.

It's interesting that Nival publishes bits of information now and then, but mostly in Russian.

ThE_HyDrA has put together a complete illustrated Heroes V section with all released info and images in it. It's pretty impressive. Click HC Menu > Age of Heroes > Heroes 5.

New Interview

Larisa, a Nival PR, has posted answers to 36 questions asked on the Nival board today. It has been posted on the Age of Heroes site. Larisas Question and Answer. It also answers your question about the Phoenix, LordZXZX.

Alas, the Barbarians have been omitted from the original release version of Heroes V. I have high hopes for them returning in the next expansion though.

My Reasoning:
Fabrice stated that there would be about 130 creatures in the game in total. (His words were that they'd top the number of creatures in Heroes III with expansions). Seeing as there are 14x6 = 84 + 10 or so neutrals, there is easily space for another town.

Another good sign for the moment is that there are 6 towns, each one having an opposite. Therefore, it would make sense to either:
Add a Barbarian town with no opposite (similar to Heroes IV) or...
Add a Barbarian town with a very magical opposite, though this is unlikely since the Academy already has claims on that title.

The most interesting news from the latest Nival interview (originally posted by Sikon at CH):

'Haven players will be able to upgrade low-level troops (e.g. Peasants) to high-level troops (e.g. Knights). However, it costs a fortune.

Sylvan players will be able to select a few most hated enemy units, and their troops will fight better against them.

There will be difficulty levels, and possibly more than five.

Artifacts are stronger, but are encountered less frequently than in previous Heroes games. There will be no Heroes III-style artifact flood.

Most of the combat AI has been ready for more than a year, but it is still in development - they still have to teach it using tricks like the Griffin special attack. However, it has shown itself a worthy opponent and is praised by virtually everyone having access to the game. The global AI is still under development.

Cavaliers will retain their Charge ability.

There is a multiplayer mode in which players make their turns simultaneously until the first "conflict of interests" - for example, if a hero is within a movement range of another hero, which includes spells like Dimension Door.'
